Even a bad boon can technically be fixed by merging into a unit with a better boon. Say you have a 5* unit with +HP. You can merge it into a 5* of the same unit with +Atk and now you have a +Atk version of that character. Almost everything carries over. So if the original unit was a 5* +5 unit (so base plus 5 more merges) and you merge it into a unit with a better boon you get a 5* +6 unit at the end. Skills also carry over. Exp and SP do not but they don't matter much since they are easy to farm. Dragonflower levels only keep the higher between the two units so you can't just get Dragonflower level 1 on both units then merge to get level 2.

The steps you have are right regrading building a 5* +10 unit.

Yes, IVs and Natures are the same. When the game first launched there was no in-game feature to see your Boon/Bane. As a result, IV calculators were made.

Promoting a unit to a higher rarity level removes its merges. So don't do that. You need to promote both units to 5* before merging them.

There are actually a bunch of layers to a perfect unit:
1. They need to be 5*
2. They need the right boon (bane doesn't matter)
3. They need to be merged to +10 (so that's 11 units total. Base and 10 merges)
4. You need to give them a bunch of Dragonflowers (5 levels for most units, 10 levels for older Infantry units)
5. You need to give them one of the 8 different Blessings
6. Deck them out with inherited skills
7. Ally Support (Find another unit to pair them with)
8. Summoner Support (only 1 unit at a time. 3 if you pay money for FEH Pass)
9. Might as well give them an accessory while you're at it

Yeah, Skills are like a movepool. Even the weapon slot is technically called a Skill. Not every unit can learn a particular skill so make sure you know what the restrictions are.

It's definitely worth using 5* units that aren't perfect. This is a gacha game. Unless you are throwing thousands of dollars at the game, you have to work with imperfect units.

I never really look at the Hero Catalogue. I'm pretty sure it shows all the units you've ever collected even if you don't have them anymore.

IVs is misleading since you can't max them all out like in Pokemon. Nature is more accurate since 1 stat is boosted and 1 stat is lowered. It is also possible to have a neutral nature where no stats are boosted or lowered. Also unlike natures, they aren't a percentage. The stat gets raised/lowered by 3 or 4 depending on the unit and the stat. These are also called boons and banes for more Fire Emblem apropriate termanology.

Don't worry about exp at all. Training a unit to Lv40 is pretty quick in this game. When you merge a unit you keep any skills it inherited. When in doubt, preview the unit. On the merge screen you can long tap on the resulting unit picture to see exactly what you get afterwards.

You should consider making a manual before you consder sending a unit home. You don't need to be in a rush to do this. The starting barracks size is pretty good. By the time it gets full, you'll be more experienced and know what units are worthless and what to keep. Don't expand your barracks until you are absolutely sure you have to. Unless you are buying lots of Orbs, this won't happen for at least a year.

Some 3* units are pretty good when promoted to 5*. I still use my Nino who was a launch day 3*-4* unit. These days the game gives you a number of good 5* units to start with so you won't be using units below 5* very often unless they are the bonus unit for a mode. Like you might bring a 4* Anna as an Arena bonus unit if you have nothing better.

When you summon a unit there's a exclamation mark if it's the first time you've ever gotten them.

One interesting thing about how the summoning pool looks like now is that Red, Blue and Colourless 5* focus units are roughly equal in difficulty to get. Sniping for Lilith or sniping for Midori both cost roughly the same number of Orbs on average. Green is still the cheapest, though.

A big part of it is my free time is largely tied up working through other games at the moment. Also contest stuff takes priority over even that which means it just takes longer to work through games. I mean I could technically just auto-battle a bunch of stuff in FEH on the side but that doesn't really count as playing the game.

I did a quick analysis on the effect on average Orb cost. First off, you still want to snipe. It's still better.

Average Orb cost on a 4 unit banner with 1 unit of each colour:
Red: 167 -> 115
Blue: 165 -> 116
Green: 148 -> 110
Colourless: 161 -> 115

Green is still best at an average of 110. Red, Blue and Colourless are all pretty much equal and only a little worse than Green.

Average Orb cost on a 4 unit banner with 4 Red focus units:
4 Red: 188 -> 119

That's quadruple colour sharing on Red and average Orb cost only goes up by 4 Orbs. When compared against the best case of solo Green, the difference is 9 Orbs.

Orb costs exclude the free pull and summon tickets. So decrease all Orb costs by 5 for the free pull and roughly 5 more for each ticket.

On top of all this is the peace of mind that you know exactly what your safety margin is when starting on a banner. If you go in with 195 Orbs, you are guaranteed to get the unit you want. In most cases, you probably want to intentionally pull 40 times anyways. Like if you've already done 24 pulls, 16 pulls is good value for another 5* (plus more if you are lucky).

155 is low to the point where you should absolutely save up Orbs to make sure you hit it for every banner you seriously try to pull a character on. Like even if you are super lucky and get the character you want in say 70 Orbs that means you are only 85 Orbs away from a guaranteed 5* focus of your choice.

Free 5* after 40 pulls is very, very good. If you always do full pulls that's 155 Orbs to get a 5* Focus of your choice.

Average Orbs costs on a 4 units banner with no colour sharing:
Green - 143
Blue - 165
Colourless - 156
Red - 178

I'll need to run some simulations to really see how things work out but there's already a significant benefit when naively pulling on everything.

Just for feathers it probably isn't worth the effort. But the updates from the AHR matches gave me the impression that a fair number of people were trying it. Like Sothis got 6.4 billion during the 11.8x hour and 3.2 billion off the 3.25x final hour. That's not normal. It wasn't enough but in a slightly more favourable situation it could have meant the difference between Sothis or Altina winning. With that said, who knows if there will ever be another VG like this to try it out.

Sothis wins if the entire team stopped playing on the 11.8x. However, everyone knows that won't happen so no one actually stops playing.

Although, this isn't a true dilemma since you can cheat and play on the 11.8x and only commit your points after the next hour already started. On top of that you can cancel the commit and get the 12x should the miracle occur. So gameplaywise, there's absolutely no reason to commit your points during the 11.8x hour but casual players don't know this.

I've seen people ask for Voting Gauntlet winners to be given out for free. Now they get to find out why that was a bad idea. With any luck they remove the bonus system just this one time but they didn't say that.

In the past this has given a rough idea on how the characters will place. Like last year it foreshadowed Eliwood's rise to fame to topple Marth. The one exception is Nino because Nino fans really, really like Twitter for some reason so she got way over represented.

The data suggests that people are largely right to assume Dimitri and Claude can't be beaten. Marth is 3rd and will struggle to get a rally to topple Dimitri or Claude. Especially since Claude and Dimitri should be rallying themselves to try and get 1st place.

Edelgard is likely a solid 1st place female side right now but people will rally to try and knock her down a peg so I don't think she's safe. Bernadetta and Lysithea are the front runners to take 2nd place female side and potentially rally past Edelgard. Female Byleth, Eirika, Marianne and Hilda are the next characters in line.

As always there's the possibility of Female Robin style stealth rallies later on. Also, the person who took credit for vote stuffing Jorge last year claims he is supporting Lute this year. Going from stuffing 1500 votes to 40000+ is quite a jump so it remains to be seen if that can be done.

For older characters, only Hardin was added to the "combined votes" list. So last year FE1 and FE3 Hardin were separate and this year they are counted as one character. This means only FE1 and FE3 Anna get combined once again.
